Microneedling
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally – invasive nonsurgical approach to skin rejuvenation, skin tightening and scar remodeling. Microneedling is a method of producing a controlled injury in the dermis and epidermis (the top two layers of skin). This triggers the wound healing cascade that induces the release of growth factors that promote regeneration. It also stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin.
Microneedling has been found to be a safe and effective aesthetic treatment for many skin conditions. Microneedling is often combined with topical therapeutic products like platelet – rich plasma, or radiofrequency to enhance results.
What does Microneedling treat?
Microneedling addresses many skin concerns including wrinkles, acne scars, fine lines, enlarged pores, oiliness, stretch marks, hair restoration, skin tone and texture.
- Treatment of male and female pattern hair loss and alopecia often involves combining microneedling with platelet – rich plasma.
- Microneedling with topical vitamin C has been shown effective and safe for melasma.
- Studies report a substantial improvement in skin texture and thickness from microneedling.
- Microneedling is very effective to treat atrophic -indented acne scars, the most common type of acne scar. It may also be combined with platelet – rich plasma to enhance the final outcome.
Who is a good candidate?
Microneedling can safely treat all skin types to address a variety of concerns. However, determining the best patient for this treatment involves careful consideration of the patient’s concerns, their health, facial anatomy, tissue quality and desired results.
How many treatments are needed?
Results are incremental. Typically, a series of 3 treatments is recommended. However, the number of treatments and the time between treatments will be determined by Dr. Kandula based on your individual goals and desires.
Treatments are usually spaced in 4-week intervals. Patients with deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, or any type of scars, usually require more treatments to achieve the desired results.
Does Microneedling hurt?
Prior to your treatment you will have a topical numbing agent applied to the treatment area. A majority of patients report feeling very little to no pain once the agent has been applied.
How long do results last?
As our skin ages our collagen production naturally slows down. Microneedling produces results through the stimulation of growth factors and collagen, thereby, promoting new skin cells to grow. New collagen and elastin have been documented from just one treatment as much as one year later.
The results are permanent, but we continue to age, so periodic maintenance treatments will help retain the benefits. When scars and stretch marks are treated, the result are permanent. Your results will last longer when using a home skin care regimen that includes a daily retinol product.
Microneedling stimulates the skin’s natural repair processes while being a relatively risk-free, in office procedure with minimal downtime and complications.
How long until you see results from Microneedling treatment?
Most patients report seeing positive changes as soon as 1-2 weeks after the first treatment. However, change is normally noted within a few days. Individual results vary depending on individual skin health.
What will I look like after the Microneedling treatment?
Immediately after treatment you will look like you have a light sunburn. Our post treatment regimen will help with any redness you might experience from the treatment.
